Lady Gaga and the Death of Sex

1 What is it that Camille Paglia wants instead?
2 How/why are people attracted to Lady Gaga's "manufactored personality?"
3 How has Lady Gaga destroyed the symbol of sex?

What is it that Camille Paglia wants instead?
Paglia’s article "Lady Gaga and the Death of Sex,” expresses how she feels what Lady Gaga has done to the symbol of sex in the music and celebrity life. Paglia describes her as a “manufactured” personality because of the over the top looks and styles she creates, I will never forget when Lady Gaga arrived at the Grammys in an egg that was so strange. I am all for being unique and creative in your own way, but Lady Gaga takes it to the extreme. As Paglia said “In Gaga’s manic miming of persona after persona, over-conceptualized and claustrophobic, we may have reached the limit of an era.” Most people have reached the limit with Gaga and would like to see her as herself. I believe she does these crazy looks and songs to try and get attention and stand out since she does not have a strong voice like the older sex icons. Paglia dates back to Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich who created a sophisticated look for glamour, and Madonna who was a major sex icon with her music and choreography. Paglia wants people to look back and realize how the women carried themselves as classy sex symbols instead of looking at Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga has changed the symbol of sex in a bad way from her raunchy lyrics; for instance, “take a bite of my bad girl meat.” A second way is from her stage performances when she tries to be sexy while being crushed by a falling chandelier or looking like she is dead. As Paglia says Lady Gaga is way over her head and needs to snap back to her real genre because the symbol she has created has brought the death of sex. I think Paglia wrote this to get her point across that Lady Gaga has taken sex to an extent by putting up this “manufactured” personality.
